In Memorium

I would like to say a few quick words about the passing of our holiday weekend. It was fun. It was filled with activities and adventures. Unfortunately the weekend is long over.

Lets recap:
Instead of our usual Saturday morning ritual, we went to the Legion of Honor. The weather was wet and dreary. Memorial Day is usually the kickoff for summer. In San Francisco it's the kickoff for cold, dreary, wet fog. Still a lovely building.

We met up with Liz and Jeremy. Liz is trying to hide among the columns!
We were there to see the Annie Leibovitz exhibit. Sadly this did not include the controversial Mylie Cyrus photos.
For some reason they do not want you to take photos of the exhibits at the museum so you have to take them on the sly! Often when you are walking. I tripped right after I took this picture.
Jeremy had a hard time being sly.
The Leibovitz exhibit was in it's final weekend so security was tight in the basement but not in the rest of the museum. Betsy was nervous about the elderly security guards but I was able to snap a few pictures. Glass sculpture.
This sculpture looks exactly like our neighbor Andy Kane!
Me, Betsy and Andy...just hanging out.
Sometime the mustache can be a bit creepy.

Once Betsy decided we were not going to get kicked out she decided to pretend to be a sculpture.

Fancy ceiling.

Not a creepy mustache but a creepy baby.

Liz and Jeremy should become hand models (can you say Christmas card photo 2008).

I love the museum. I could have hung out for a few more hours but everyone else was hungry.

Freezing temperatures led us to Yummy Yummy for a warm soup lunch.

Liz had to utilize her napkin like a bib. Noodles can be difficult to control.
Unless you're Betsy. She's showing those noodles who's boss. Note the difference in my soup vs. Betsy's soup. She puts so much hot sauce in hers and slices of hot peppers it would make most people cry (except Jeremy who does the same thing). Crazy.
After our morning w/the McMillan's we made our way up the street to Optimetrix for new glasses. This picture doesn't do them justice. Don't worry, they'll get their own post when they arrive. I am so excited about new glasses!
Betsy calls this new hairstyle her pitiful ponytail. I think it looks great!
Shawn and Robyn wanted to take me out to dinner to celebrate my thesis defense completion. What great friends...we all met up at Blue Fin Sushi for some seafood delicacies. These were good...mushrooms with some type of miscellaneous seafood thing happening on the top.
Sometimes I look weird in pictures. Shawn too.
Betsy and Robyn are looking cute though.
Here we go...more cute at the ice cream parlor...
Tons of cute...
Sunday afternoon we went down to Linds & Pat's new house in Sunnyvale (that's the city Betsy grew up in) and after a delicious early dinner we played a game of croquet in their back yard. Lindsay is more competitive than she looks in this picture.
I was jealous of their yard...tons of fruit trees...lemon, orange, apricot, fig, plus a veggie garden.
Lindsay is about to have a baby. Not "about to" like right after this picture was taken but "about to" on June 19th.

My excellent form.
Betsy's excellent form.
I think this where Lindsay was about to launch Betsy's ball off the course.

Betsy was trying to figure out the timer setting unsuccessfully.

Almost got it.

Success.

After our visit with the Young's we drove by the the house Betsy grew up in. It's now occupied by hippies that only drive Prius'.
Betsy's mom Sue will be upset that the trees are all so overgrown (so says Betsy). I told Betsy that should not come as a shock as hippies do not cut trees under any circumstances.

Monday morning (the official holiday of the holiday weekend) we did our standard Coit tower walk which was not nearly as fun b/c there was no farmers market to go to. We walked by the Ferry Building which was deserted and kinda sad. We then stopped at Safeway to get a few things. Few things??? Look at all this stuff Betsy made me carry! Ridiculous. 4 cans of spaghettio's and a jar of pickels? What gives!!

Not a bad holiday weekend! I can't wait for the next one!

Dream come true

YES! My favorite boy band is back together! New Kids on the Block have reunited!

Look how cute they all turned out. Except Danny Wood who still looks kinda weird if you ask me.

I was so in love with Joey McIntyre. That's him on the far right. Hm, he sorta looks like a girl.

My younger sister Suzy was in love (probably still is) with John Knight. He's the other weird looking one (back right of that last photo). She use to kiss her John Knight pillow every night before drifting off to sleep.

I'm not embarrassed to say I've seen them in concert twice. And I'm also not embarrassed to admit that I could possibly be convinced to see them this October in San Jose, CA.

Addendum to "Hot as H..."

I went to the afternoon Giant's game today with my company. Apparently I missed a spot with the sunscreen on my neck. Sorry mom and dad...I know I'm prone to skin cancer. I promise I tried not to get burned.

Hot as H...

This is what we noticed when we got home!!!
That's the temperature reading inside our loft and on our roof deck.

Perfect weekend

Our weekend started out with me surprising Betsy with dinner at the Salt House. She had no idea where we were going. I wanted to surprise her because she helped me so much this week with my defense and we did have our 6 month wedding anniversary last weekend (which we both forgot).
We started our meal with a crispy shrimp appetizer. So yummy.
I had the seared yellow fin tuna on a bed of fava beans and I forget what else... All I know is I felt like I was a guest judge on Top Chef.
Look how excited Betsy is! She had a grilled hanger steak on a fluffy pillow of potatos.

I personally liked her dish better which worked out because she liked mine better. So we ended up swapping.

The next morning we woke up and went for our normal walk to Coit tower. I love walking early in the morning. We have the entire city to ourselves. Inspired by Stephen and the smoke coming up out of the pot hole in the ground, Betsy decided to have a dance-off with herself.
Look how deserted Market Street is. So nice.
Downtown is completely different when no one is around. No people, no traffic, no noise. Just me and my wife walking around with her name on her jacket (nerd).
We also get to walk by many landmarks.
We also walk though the historic Jackson Square district.
The buildings in Jackson Square are all brick and historic looking.
As you can see our walk gets very steep. Water break usually happens when we get to these stairs.
Another historic district!
After we get up to the top of Coit tower (another landmark) we head down the Filbert Steps and head towards the Ferry building (landmark) for breakfast sandwichs. After shopping for flowers and other goodies, and after celebrity chef (we see this guy every week) sightings, we head home.

On our way home, we noticed our favorite spider sculpture was in jail for some unknown charges.
We then walk down the waterfront on our way home. I love the waterfront and I love running down it after work.
Our neighborhood was action packed this weekend. We had KFOG Kaboom and an afternoon Giants game. Luckily we have a scooter so we didn't have to move our cars. I felt sorry for everyone who was stuck in traffic. Public transportation folks.
I am also excited to report we live in a historic district.
Saturday night we went to a surprise birthday party for our friend Liz . I was so surprised that I forgot to take photos. We had a wonderful time. And we think Liz is 100% rad. When we got home the fireworks started and we had a great view from the roof deck. Well, almost perfect. The fog had rolled in!
I love our roof deck!
Today was Mothers Day. Betsy talked me into getting her a present, since she will be a future Mother. At first I scoffed but then I remembered Fathers day is just around the corner!
She loved her gift! I loved the weekend. And I love my wife. I can't wait for the next one!
