Errand Boy

Steve has a bit of time on his hands these days so we're taking advantage by giving him lots of tasks that normally clog up our weekends. Take the bread maker situation. For our wedding we got one of these that we loved with all our heart.

Then one day the mechanism that holds the bread pan in the machine broke so when we'd try and make a loaf, it'd be chaos. So the broken breadmaker has been sitting on our shelf for months. I figured we'd have to throw it in the trash but then I remembered how great Bed, Bath & Beyond was when we returned and exchanged wedding gifts. I called them last night and let them know we had this bread maker from our wedding in Nov '07 that we didn't use for 6 months then started using then it broke but we have no receipt and no packaging whatsoever and sure enough their answer was "no problem!" So today Steve took the broken machine down to BB&B and exchanged it for this one that isn't as pretty to look at but gets rave reviews.

It was also $100 more expensive but with a 20% off coupon we ended up paying only about $60 out of pocket for a brand-new bread maker! I can't wait to experiment!

Also, I love Steve for sending me a picture of how he had to transport our new Zojirushi home.

I feel like there will be future posts about the Zojirushi. Mostly because it's called a Zojirushi.

Moving right along.

Well, we've sold everything we wanted to sell except the little Panasonic stereo. Last night a nice couple came and gave us a big wad of $20 bills in exchange for our dining room table and chairs. We've met some really nice people in the process of selling our furniture on Craigslist. The pinnacle was last night, Ali and Charles were the best! I found myself wanting to tell them to "give us a call sometime!" as we helped them load our table and chairs into their truck. I didn't though. Instead I watched them drive away with part of our life in the loft. We've had so many fun meals and worked our way through some serious puzzles on that baby. I'm happy the table and chairs is going to a new home where it will likely have more exciting times ahead.

Steve sent me this picture of our loft in it's current state (thanks to the Kane's for loaning us a couch for the last two weeks in our apt):

Even when it's the right thing to do, moving is hard. Moving = change. Change = Betsy freaks out. I'll be fine. We'll be fine in our new normal sized one bedroom nestled in the inner sunset...within walking distance of 9th & Irving, GG Park, lots of good friends...pocketing lots of $$ each month by taking advantage of the downturn in the economy and dropping rent prices.

Deep breath...we'll be fine.

Moving Sale Update!

UPDATE! We've sold the couch, the bookcase, the dresser, the patio furniture, the chair w/ottoman, the corner shelf and the speakers. We have an offer for the dining room table (not the chairs) but it's still up for grabs. We're ready to negotiate so let us know!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's try this again. Some of you know we had signed a lease on an apartment a couple of months back but it fell through (due to many smoking neighbors in the "non-smoking" building). We got ourselves out of that situation and have found an even better place which we are really excited about. Moving from a loft to a more standard sized one-bedroom apartment means it's time to downsize our furniture that we up-sized because we had so much space. Here's a list of things we're selling on Craigslist (all in excellent condition):

Sectional Couch
Dining Room Table w/six chairs
Dresser
Bookcase
Desk
Patio Furniture Set
Chair w/Ottoman
Corner Shelf
Panasonic stereo
Infinity Bookshelf Speakers

Email me or leave a comment if you're interested in anything posted here. Also, if anyone is interested in renting our loft, we're tight with our property manager and could help make that happen as well.

Happy President's Weekend

Happy President's Day! Let's take a few minutes to bow our heads for our past and present heads of state (well almost everyone).

This weekend was action packed. And wet. It has rained all weekend which is good since California is headed for a drought. First up, Valentines Day. As you can see we are in love.

Betsy surprised me by getting me a Humboldt State sweatshirt! I have a couple hoodies from when I went to school there but they are old and ratty (perfect for Humboldt). I guess they were too stinky for Betsy.

Betsy was excited that I got her a heart shaped box of chocolates...
but was even more excited when she found a Wicked ticket attached to the back!
Our friends the McMillan's came over for dinner, to puzzle, to watch a Date movie, and to eat a 5-cheese mac and cheese that we made. This mac-n-cheese was so good but is only for special occasions since it has the potential to clog your arteries. The McMillan's also brought desert from here and here. It was fun to share the love.

Since today was a holiday we slept in, which is easy to do when it is cold and raining outside. After running some errands in the morning we decided to go see a movie in the afternoon. There was some debate, Betsy wanted to see this but I talked her out of it. We needed to see something presidential. Luckily there was such a movie.

I love bio-pics, and this one didn't disappoint. Nixon was a crazy, power hungry bastard but we have him to thank for signing the Clean Air and Water acts. The film was interesting and fast-paced which was good.

We came home and made an Presidential Dinner of Salmon, BBQ Artichokes and mashers. So good. Betsy also has a knack for making delicious yogurt/cucumber concoctions.

Delicious. What a great weekend.

Love Letterman

I love David Letterman. Did you see his hilarious interview w/the crew of Flight 1549? It's a highlight reel so it's only about two minutes long. Totally worth watching.

Hootie-Hoo!

My friend from work says the only TV worth watching is Bravo skill-based reality TV. I don't know if I agree it's the ONLY TV worth watching but we certainly love our Top Chef. And I had to take a minute to send a shout-out to our favorite contestant this season, Carla. She is crazy in the most endearing way! We love her. She's ridiculous but she's such a unique, happy, genuine person. We're pulling for her but I'm not sure anyone is going to beat Stefan this season.

And the winner is....me!

Important fact: Steve and I didn't end up moving after all.

Begin post...

Steve and I live in a split-level loft. It's big and lovely but there is no escaping sound. This means it's virtually impossible for one person to watch TV while the other listens to music. Or for one person to read in silence while the other does something noisy. To remedy this problem I decided to get Steve some noise cancelling headphones for Christmas. I was ready to pay the big bucks for these fancy Bose ones but after talking to numerous musically saavy friends I was convinced to purchase the much less expensive but equally as rad Sony version which have worked beautifully.

Fast forward to a little company party I attended last week and guess who won the exact Bose headphones I was originally going to buy for Steve. Me. Check us out in our new headgear.

The Superbowl

This past Sunday we decided to have a Superbowl party. Around Thanksgiving we were shopping at Lucky and we got a free turkey. Just for doing our weekly shopping. The bird has been in the freezer for months so in our effort to purge things we don't use, we decided a super game deserved a super bird.
We also invited friends. Sometimes they dress like us.

Pat and Lindsy brought little coop. Although he is too small to eat bird, he still managed to have a good time.

We had quite a spread, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad, football shaped rice crispy treat. Betsy went all out with football themed plates. She means business.
that is until she opens a puzzle and starts working on it. Come on!!

thank goodness Rebecca and Emily came over with 3-D glasses for everyone. I had no idea we needed them. That Rebecca, so in the know.
But the main attraction for some was the halftime show by the Boss. No one was more excited than our friend Andy "the Boss" Kane.
Bruce put on a good show
but who is that pirate with him?
Mostly everyone at the party was there for the food and commercials, except Shawn and myself. Shawn didn't leave his seat the entire game.

The game was exciting up until the last moments. What a nail biter. I was excited the Steelers came out on top.
